If our environment coming under increasingly pressure, we should do all we can to contribute our part to saving the earth. An easy way to do so is to create a more energy efficient home through the use of different home appliances and smart furniture. Many of these current items are becoming more environmentally friendly and if you use them to replace the ones you are currently using, you will be on your way to a more energy efficient home. However, if you have no clue on what are some of these items, here are some ideas for you to try.

One of the most easy to replace item is your lighting. You can consider using solar powered lights rather than the electrical based ones that is not as energy efficient.  Unlike in the past where solar lights can be used in the outdoors, there are now indoor solar lighting that makes it possible for your interior lighting to be solar based as well. This type of solar lighting uses two distinct power sources: solar based and electrical based. Whenever there is sufficient sunlight, the indoor solar lighting will use solar power as its power source. However, if you encounter cloudy or rainy days, the electric power source will take over to ensure that you will never encounter days of having no lights.

Another thing to replace can be your window shades. Currently, most of your window treatment does not insulate your home as well as cellular shades. This particular type of window shade has one of the most powerful insulation due to the way its cellular structure traps pockets of air between the cells. This layer of air is why cellular shades can help to better maintain the temperature of the room. With a more moderate temperature, there will be less use of air conditioning and heating which can in turn reduces your energy consumption.
